Hey, I’m Jack! I’m originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland but have been living in and loving Vancouver since 2025. I’m working towards a PhD in music theory at UBC. I’ve been playing piano since I was three and have nearly ten years of teaching experience in piano, drums, music theory and composition. I’ve shared the stage with some awesome Canadian bands including Alvvays, Broken Social Scene, Hey Rosetta!, July Talk, Wolf Parade, and Vancouver’s own Said the Whale and Yukon Blonde!

 

My teaching style is all about focusing on the music you like and the things you want to learn. I believe that everyone learns differently and I strive to shape lessons around what works for you. I also hope that you will be introduced to some new music along the way, and I hope that I am too!

 

Outside of music, I enjoy playing video games, especially Switch and N64. I recently got into trying curling and play in a for-fun novice league. I also used to host trivia nights back in Newfoundland and am always looking for great trivia recommendations around town. I live in Vancouver with my partner Abby who studies interior design, and our cat Venus who has two different coloured eyes!
