I am Santiago and I am originally from Mexico. It’s hard to say when my love for music started, but my favourite story to tell is when my grandmother told my mom that she found it very strange that I sing the “instrument parts” of songs, rather than the lyrics.
Although I always had a musical ear, it did not fully develop until later in life, which is something I find many adult students relate to.
I studied Jazz Guitar at the Music Conservatory of my home town; but when you hear me play, you don’t hear Joe Pass, or Wes Montgomery. My style is a very finger-style focused, electro-acoustic blend of rock, blues and pop, influenced by players like John Mayer, José González, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton.
My approach to learning guitar is organized and hands on, helping students understand what to practice and why. If you put in the work you will hear the results, and that alone is enough drive to keep the system working. I am hoping I can inspire students and hold them accountable by sharing my expertise, my routines and my habits, but more importantly, by sharing my passion for music.
