Rocky Riobo
ROCKY RIOBO. Classically trained. Jazz influenced. Theatrically driven. Rocky has been studying voice since the age of 5. She completed grade 8 Canadian Conservatory and was awarded a diploma in Jazz Voice from Capilano University.
Since age 12 she has spent 6 years playing French horn and trombone, and 10 years playing piano and ukulele.
Rocky is passionate about performing and creating music and actively engages in a handful of projects. Since childhood, Rocky has performed in countless musicals, starring as Little Sally in Urinetown, Betty Schaefer in Sunset Boulevard, and Donkey in Shrek the Musical. She has sung in choirs and vocal jazz groups, received several medals and awards over the years from the Chilliwack Lions Music and Dance Festival and the Langley Kiwanis Music Festival, and currently plays keys and sings in the Vancouver rock band Dead Churches. Rocky is also asked to play all over the lower mainland with her jazz trio The Rocky Riobo Trio.
Rocky’s excitement to spread the love of music fuels her lessons. Teaching voice, piano, ukulele, beginners guitar, and theory, Rocky’s objective is to instill in her students a sense of drive, exploration, and pride. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s passions and personal goals, marrying the abstract and theoretical sides of music.
