About Me:

I’m all about making music through fostering connection while supporting each student where they need to be met. I’ve honed my skills at Capilano University, but what really sets me apart is my love for inspiring others. I’ve jammed with all sorts of students, from absolute beginners to those with unique learning styles and health challenges.

I am comfortable and experienced teaching many genres such as pop, rock, jazz, country, blues, and folk.

Alison Maira Bio

I have many years of experience teaching piano and music theory one-on-one with neurotypical students as well as students with special needs, learning disabilities, chronic health issues, brain injury rehabilitation and post stroke rehabilitation. I also played keyboards and sang in two Vancouver indie rock bands The Feminists and Parlour Steps (2001-2011). With these bands I toured internationally, released four albums, and performed at major music festivals such as SXSW and NXNE, had songs placed in TV and film (Degrassi: The Next Generation), and charted several singles on college radio in Canada, US, and UK.

If you, your child, or anyone you know are interested in exploring the fascinating, beautiful, infinite world of music via the piano with a trustworthy, qualified teacher/guide who sometimes snort-giggles with her students while playing duets with them, please get in touch!
