My son and his friend LOVE going to class every week and really want to show their teacher that they are learning.

Through a series of musical games, they wrote lyrics, composed a song, played and recorded it. So much fun!

It takes away all the boredom and fear that comes with old-school piano lessons and turns learning music into a real joy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What age are the students in MiniMusos?

MiniMusos is designed for 4- and 5-year-olds.

What if my child is turning 6 soon?

If your child is turning 6 within 2-3 months, we may recommend Jam Band 101 instead. However, the most important consideration is placing your child in a group with peers their age.

How many kids are in a MiniMusos class?

These classes are small, with a maximum of 6 children.

Can parents or babysitters join the class?

MiniMusos is a drop-off class, but parents are welcome to be in the room if their child is nervous. In this case, we encourage parents to be supportive by being present, but to remain quiet rather than participate in the class.

What if my child isn’t ready for a drop-off class?

We recommend trying one or two classes to see how your child does. Many kids quickly get comfortable because they’re having so much fun. If the class isn’t the right fit, you can cancel and try again when your child is a little older.

How long is each class?

MiniMusos classes are 45 minutes long.

What happens in a class?

Students learn simple techniques on piano, drums, and singing, write original songs together, and play music games designed to teach the building blocks of music.

What instruments will my child play?

Students explore piano/keyboard, a mini drum kit (floor tom and snare), DJ equipment, and the microphone for singing.

Is there a performance?

Twice a year, we invite families and friends to join a class to see the kids play games and perform one or two of their original songs.

Can 4- or 5-year-olds really write and play an original song?

Yes! And they’re always SO excited and inspired by their own creations. Our curriculum and games are designed to make songwriting accessible and fun, whether they’re counting beats on a hand drum or playing simple patterns on the keyboard.

What if my child would do better in private lessons?

Most 4- and 5-year-olds thrive in a group setting because it’s motivating, fun, and social. In MiniMusos, they also learn essential skills for playing music in a group, like following the music, understanding when and what to play, and making their individual contributions to the band. After one or two years of MiniMusos or Jam Band 101, students are ready to transition to private lessons on their chosen instrument.

Why is songwriting part of the program?

Songwriting is a powerful learning tool! To write their own songs, students need to understand the building blocks of music and how rhythm, melody, harmony, and lyrics come together to create something unique.
