From a young, young, age well under 6 some of my first memories are hearing Blues music, when I heard it for the first time in my hometown of Kitchener, Ontario (a city that hosts the largest free blues concert in North America every year) I knew that I had to play and be a part of this sound. To this day, the blues is easily my favorite genre and it continues to inspire me every time I hear and play it.
I have been playing music for over 20 years and teaching for the last 10 years on and off now. During this time I’ve has explored many genres and styles in depth on the Guitar, Bass, and Drums. Then when I first heard the melodic percussive sounds of the Hang Drum in about 2010 and had a chance to play a few tongue drums and other homemade types in the coming years until buying my own just two years ago, I knew I had discovered something even more mesmerizing than to me than the blues. Now I have fallen in love with this highly creative instrument, and am constantly searching and experimenting musically to create fusions of the styles I love with Guitar, Bass, Hang Drum and many other random world instruments. As a Hang Drum player myself I have studied under two exceptional teachers so far : Jacob Cole, and Kabeção. These two players amongst Sam Maher, Dan Mulqueen, and Manu Delagu are my primary influences and sources of inspiration on the Hang Drum.
My teaching style consists of 3 key principles which are: Passion, Respect, and Patience. My goal while teaching you how to play this instrument is to keep you excited, teach you how to practice most efficiently with the best habits possible, and to let you steer the direction you want our lessons to go in while I act as training wheels to support you along the way. Looking forward to meeting you in our first lesson!
